Credit Repair Myth #3

Information on a credit report can be changed. Though there has been a concerted effort to convince consumers that information on a credit report cannot be changed, this is absolutely untrue. A creditor who reports information to a credit bureau is responsible for the accuracy of that information and is also capable of altering that information. Anything that a creditor reports to a credit bureau can be changed! This makes it entirely possible for a consumer to challenge the validity of the creditor's claims and get that information removed. Additionally, a creditor can be persuaded to change negative credit information on a credit report if they see an effort to settle the debt.
At the very heart of credit repair is the assessment of one's debt and the understanding that a good-faith effort to repay that debt be made. When developing a credit repair strategy, the consumer should negotiate with the creditor that part of the terms of repayment will include an adjustment to the credit report. It does no good to your credit report if you are continually paying off the debt but that payment is not reflected on your credit report. Making sure that adjustments to your credit report be part of the credit repair strategy is a sure way to begin repairing your credit.
